Director of Friend of the Court - William Baker, Jr.

The Friend of the Court is a part of the Family Division of the Circuit Court.  Established by statute, the Friend of the Court makes recommendations on issues involving custody, support, and parenting time to the Court.  The Friend of the Court can provide enforcement on orders which have provision for parenting time and support obligations and are filed with the County Clerk's office.  The Friend of the Court office is specific to the Circuit Court which they are assigned and may not be able to provide services or answer questions for another County or Circuit Court.  The Friend of the Court does provide "Pro-Per" forms for the parties who have a case and want to handle the matter before the Court.  The Friend of the Court can not represent a party of the case at a hearing.  The Office can provide some dispute resolution on custody and parenting time issues for the Court.  The Friend of the Court is required to maintain a neutral position on all cases and can only assist when requested by the parties or ordered by the Court.  The Friend of the Court can not get involved in case establishments and can not help when there is no Court Order.  For establishment of a case, a person would be required to hire an attorney, talk to the Prosecutor's office or get a referral from the Department of Social Services.
